Ready or not, it’s time to head back to school. Perhaps your family is homeschooling or virtual learning. Either way, it’s a fresh start and a new beginning. Let’s get off to a strong start by creating and adhering to a regular evening and morning routine. Here, my sister, Blu Wyatt and I offer you our thoughts on the matter.
In a cut scene, I said “I like to beat my kids up” which came out completely wrong and made us laugh!!
Of course what I meant to say is that I like to wake up each day before my children wake up so I can mentally prepare for the day to ensure I can help my kids also have a positive start.
Equally important is having a regular evening routine to prepare for the day ahead and a restful nights sleep. Your evening routine may include “winding down” with a good book, or game before setting out needed items for the morning.
You may have what I call an “information kid”, this type of child needs to know the upcoming plan and thrives on knowing whats ahead. Summarizing the next day’s events will allow your kids to mentally prepare which may prevent “melt-downs.”
This year is probably starting differently considering current events. I encourage you to use this unique opportunity to cultivate relationships with your children.
Leading with calm optimism will help your kids adopt a similar outlook during this volatile time and the routines you establish will also be instrumental.
Wishing you a successful school year!!
